After becoming parents, we have started to fully embrace the Singapore spirit of being “auntie” and “uncle”. Hand-me-downs are gratefully accepted, and don’t get us started on samples. We have started to embrace all the different types of samples given how picky little ones can get. You don’t really want to buy the entire box or bottle just for your little one to reject them on the first try.
Not forgetting that babies grow up very quickly, there is a constant need to refresh their wardrobe and toys. As new parents, we would want to expose our little ones to all sorts of new toys. But, they can get expensive over time and we are constantly finding free or cheap toys for our little one to play.
Over the past year with our little one, we have a couple of great platforms that we use to get FREE baby stuff for our little one.
Samples from baby brands
We learn quickly that baby skin is very sensitive, and if the diaper used is not suitable, their skin gets red or rashes form quickly. Personally, we swap multiple baby diaper brands as our little one grows, and having samples from baby brands is amazing to test them out before you commit to one.

Second-hand items from Carousell
We were not Carousell users until we had our little one. At different ages (months, actually), babies need different age-appropriate toys and we constantly have to keep sourcing for different toys and items to keep our little one entertained. If you have walked into a toy shop in Singapore, you would have realized that toys are actually pretty expensive. It does not make sense for us to drop a few hundred on toys that our little one may (or may not) play.
However, on Carousell, there are many parents selling or giving away their used baby items for free. There are a lot of listings out there, so the difficulty comes in whereby you have to spend some time to sieve out the listings that are more suitable for you.
We know that there are many parents out there giving away items such as breast pumps, milk bottles, and many more. In our case, we usually get toys for our little one to play, and if our little one outgrows them, we simply re-bless them (assuming still in working conditions) to the next parents.
Friendly fellow parents from your estate
If you are a part of a BTO estate, there is a high chance that there is an estate FB group. Usually for BTOs and new projects, many of your fellow neighbours are parents as well. It is actually so much easier to giveaway or sell items to fellow neighbours as we know that we are within distance from each other.
